INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

CHE T/S 8.8 Axle Brace
PART # CHE9A

Use caution and common sense while working on the vehicle. If you lack the necessary equipment or expertise to perform this operation, have the product installed by a mechanic with the proper tools and experience. Failure to follow safe practices may result in injury.

  1. Raise the vehicle- With the front wheels properly blocked; raise the rear end of the vehicle as high as safely possible.  Place jack stands on a solid area under the frame of the car, not the rear end.  For ease of access, drop the rear axle as low as possible.  The more room that you have to work the better.
  2. Remove Axle Dampener - Remove the 2 bolts securing the axle dampener to the rear end housing.  Remove the dampener and the pinion snubber bracket from the differential housing.
  3. Enlarge Differential Housing Holes- Using a 1/2" bit; enlarge the axle dampener holes in the differential housing.
  4. Install Axle Brace- Using the supplied 1/2" bolts and locknuts, install the axle brace onto the axle housing.  At this time, only snug the bolts until final positioning can be made.
  5. Drill rear flange holes- Using a 3/8" bit, drill the hole for the rear flange bolt.  On 1994 and newer axle housings, there is a pre-existing hole that only needs enlarged.  Install a 3/8" bolt and locknut.  At this time only snug the bolt until final positioning is made.  Repeat on other side
  6. Drill bottom flange holes- Using a 3/8" bit, drill a hole for the bottom flange bolt using the axle brace as a guide.  Repeat on other side.
  7. Drill front flange holes- Mark the position of the front flange hole using a suitable tool.  Remove the brace, and drill a hole using a 3/8" drill bit.  Repeat for other side.
  8. Install brace & tighten hardware-  Install the brace and tighten all hardware.  Do not forget to install the pinion snubber bracket on the differential housing.  Torque the 1/2" bolts to 90-100 ft-lbs, and the 3/8" flange bolts to 50-60 ft-lbs.
  9. Inspect Installation-  Inspect the installation to insure that there is no interference with other components.
